Beech Road

Creating a light an airy dining and living space that spills into the garden.

This vivacious family wanted more space but couldn't bare to leave their lovely neighbourhood. An architect friend recommended we speak and I'm glad we did. We quickly realised that we could extend and reconfigure the space to much better suit their needs.

Reconfigure the kitchen

These kitchen lovers wanted more space to prepare and enjoy food. We moved the kitchen  to the centre of the ground floor. This larger space gives 4 sides of usable surfaces and a sense of connection to the dining area via a breakfast island. Placing the cooker in the fireplace alcove gives the kitchen has a cosy country feel, while natural light spills in from their amply lit family room.

Plenty of light family space

We opened up the full width of the rear of the house and let pools of light poor in from the rear and skylights.

It's actually possible to remove any wall you don't want. We chose to remove an external side wall so that we could gain space for a dining room and reading nook. The silhouette of the wall was left in the room, giving the feeling of two separate but connected spaces.

Three light wells

There's no replacement for natural sunlight. The extension gave us the opportunity to let light pour in through three Velux windows above the dining room area.

Bringing the outside in

This new layout takes full advantage of their gorgeous garden. The lush greenery can be enjoyed through the large rear window and doors, or stepped into on those warmer days.

"Pete came as a recommendation from an architect. He used his experience to offer advice on what would and wouldn’t work but incorporated our ideas too. The space we’ve created is so functional but it’s also beautiful. It feels airy and light. We wish we'd done it sooner"
